German-Ukrainian bilateral cooperation has been steadily intensifying since
2014 with Germany as an active supporter of the Ukrainian reform process
and a key actor in the talks within the Normandy Format. The year 2019 saw
a shift in the Ukrainian political landscape. The new Ukrainian president,
Volodymyr Selenskyy, was elected and during the first year of the current
legislative period, Ukraine has already seen two prime ministers and their
governments. These developments invite an exploration of their impacts on
the German-Ukrainian cooperation, the expectations and challenges for
bilateral relations, and how to foster sustainability in cooperation
between Germany and Ukraine in the future.
We are pleased to announce that the 18th Ukraine Breakfast Debate on
„German-Ukrainian Bilateral Relations: New Tendencies in Cooperation?”
will take place
online on Wednesday, June 10, 10–11:15 AM in partnership with the New
Europe Center. During our Ukraine Breakfast we will present the first
results of the joint German-Ukrainian study on the current trends in
German-Ukrainian relations. The paper is published in the framework of the
„Europeanisation beyond borders“ project implemented by New Europe Center
with the support of the Open Society Initiative for Europe.
Ukraine Breakfast Debates are part of the project “German Ukrainian
Researchers Network” (GURN). GURN aims to establish a German-Ukrainian
network for senior and junior researchers, strengthening expertise in the
field of policy analysis and promoting joint research projects. GURN is
conducted in cooperation with the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives
Foundation (DIF, Kyiv), the think tank development and research initiative
think twice UA (Kyiv), New Europe Center (NEC, Kyiv), and is kindly
supported by the Federal Foreign Office.
This event is furthermore organized in cooperation with the Berlin Policy
Hub, which has supported the elaboration of the joint Ukrainian-German
publication at IEP.
Please note that the event will be held in English.
